Subject: Gliga Maestro Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 21:15:53 -0500 From: "Steven J. Stratford" To: The Violin Collector Jacob-- I'm going to keep the Gliga Maestro violin. Perhaps at a later date if the unfinished violin is still available and I'm ambitious enough I may tackle the task. In the meantime, this violin will be more than sufficient to allow me to make progress on my violin playing skills. It's a beautiful piece of work. I've looked it over very carefully and can find no fault with the finish, the wood selection, the carving skill, no fault at all. I've also been playing it and getting to know it, of course. The tone seems to already be opening up somewhat, even just over the weekend. It has very clear and confident midrange and delicate upper range. The lower range is dark and strong, as Gliga violins have been described. Our college violin teacher took a close look at it and played it, too, and was VERY impressed with the appearance, workmanship, and tonal quality. She over-guessed on what I paid for it by $1000. Of course she also told me I must play it every day now...which I shall definitely try to do. --Steve _____________________________ Steven J.
